Calvary Youth Sailing Program 2011 - Our Tenth Anniversary

This summer, our Sailing Program celebrated its 10th Anniversary and what a year it has been. The youth summer camp ran for two weeks and was attended by 50 children. 7 Adult volunteers from Calvary and from Pinellas Suncoast Fire and Rescue provided inspiration as well as supervision. A dedicated group of parents, under the leadership of Karen Baldino, provided snacks, lots of water and gator-aid, and moral support throughout the summer. 5 young people were appointed watch captains to work with the adults, and one outstanding young man, Niko Lyons, was appointed our new "Racing Coach."

The high point of our summer program was reached when an anonymous donor gave us a check for $10,000. That donation enabled us to begin a new chapter in the program with the purchase of 4 Optimist Youth Racing Dinghys. And that marked the beginning of the Calvary Youth Opti Racing team. They have been practicing all summer long and will compete in their first regatta in October.

September's Fall Youth Sailing Program is already full and plans are now underway for the addition of a Fall Season Adult Learn to Sail program.

We thank God for giving our parish the opportunity to use the resources of our beautiful waterfront property to bring this gift into the lives of hundreds of children over the past ten years, and we look forward to continued growth and service to our community in the years to come.

We invite you to visit the program and see our outstanding “intrepid sailors” in action.
