Vestry Minutes

Minutes of the Vestry of Calvary Episcopal Church  January 20, 2015

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.  Ten members were present.  Judy Marx was excused due to illness.

Fr. Jon led us in prayer and we remembered those of the Parish who had asked for prayers and those known to us in need of prayer.

This meeting was for the purpose of completing the Agenda from the previous week

which was suspended due to lateness of the hour.  The first matter before the Vestry was to finish our discussion of naming a new Finance Committee to serve the Vestry in the coming year.  Fr. Jon said he would present a suggested proposal given to him by

our Treasurer John Harper after considerable research of other church financial committees.  Fr. Jon made it clear that everyone needed to be heard and to make any concerns known to the Vestry about such an important decision. Everyone did speak and everyone listened thoughtfully.

The proposed structure of the Finance Committee would have membership of the following: Rector, Treasurer, Vestry Representative, Endowment Chair, three lay members rotating off 3 year terms, with some serving a one or two year term initially.  Those suggested  were Mike Alford, Endowment Chair, Keith Oeste, Greg Donham, Maria McDaniel, Fr. Jon, John Harper, Treas., a representative from Vestry,

and possibly another representative from the Parish. It was discussed in the framework of the Vestry members service is limited and it is time for a new committee. After an extensive discussion of a variety of views and suggestions a motion was made by Jerry Brewer and seconded by Debbie Thayer that we accept the proposal, as presented by Fr. Jon for John Harper, to name the new Finance Committee and to have them start at a time in February after further discussion of appointments at our Vestry Retreat.

A vote was taken and it passed with eight votes for with two abstentions.

The new Finance Committee will be appointed at a time in February for the purpose of overlap and passing along of information from the former committee.

Before the meeting ended we spoke of the Annual Meeting, the Vestry Retreat in February and Winterfest encouraging all to be supportive of each.

The meeting closed with the group saying the Lord’s Prayer together.

Respectfully submitted,

Nancy C. Pappas
