Annual Parish Meeting:  Save the date:  Sunday, January 31st.  If anyone is interested in providing breakfast for this event please contact the office.  We always enjoy food and fellowship.

Pledges:  It’s time for us to prayerfully discern our financial pledges to Calvary.  We will take, “A Journey to the Tithe” and collect pledges throughout the Sundays in Advent.  Today is the foruth Sunday in Advent.  Pledge cards are available in the narthex.  Our goal is to receive 70 pledges totaling $170,000.  We currently have 46 pledges totaling ~$127,000.  You are invited to bring your pledge to the altar during the doxology to assist in reaching our goal.

Let’s Celebrate:  This is the first year in over 10 years that Calvary has not needed to depend on withdrawing monies from our historical bequests (unrestricted fund).  We budgeted the necessity of withdrawing ~$40,000 for 2015 to support our operation.  Praise be to God from whom all blessings flow.  Thank you one and all for giving so generously this year.

Greening of the church:  Many hands make light work!! The greening of the church will take place on Monday, Dec. 21 beginning at 10:00am. Children and adults are all welcome! Pack your lunches and join the party!   Let’s make the church as beautiful as the season!

The Bookies of Calvary:  The Calvary Book Club invites you to join us on January 18th at 6:30 in Parish Hall.  Our current selection is The Wright Brothers by David McCullough.  Contact Cherie Smith or Cathy Athanson with questions.

Winterfest on the Rocks:  Calvary Episcopal Church is hosting the 11th annual Winterfest on the Rocks, Saturday, February 6th. The event includes children and pet parades, musical performance by: The Easy Street Band, a Marine ROTC color guard, a Coast Guard patrol boat, an old fire engine, silent auction, a variety of arts and craft vendors and food and drink booths.  We really need your help to recruit more vendors to this event.  Please pick up as many vendor applications at the front desk and freely distribute with businesses that you visit.

Last year we raised $14,500 for the church. In an effort to help us reach our goals, this year we’re adding a raffle for a beautiful $1,500 Bote paddle board. The raffle tickets are only $10 each. We ask your help, both, in selling and buying these tickets. Tickets are available at the office during the week or after church service at the front desk.  If you have questions regarding Winterfest please contact Cherie Smith, Betsy McKenna or Bill Athanson.

Youth Musical production – “The Christmas Mission across America” Musical Play is a must see performance our youth have worked so hard over the last 3 months to present this musical to our church. You can help us by inviting all of your friends and family and neighbors.  $5.00 admission tickets sold after church and at the door. A love offering would be most helpful and generous to support our music and youth ministries. We thank all of the youth and their parents who have dedicated themselves to this musical.  We especially thank the director of the musical, Lynne Roberts and our Music Director, Matthew Burke for their unfailing commitment towards excellence and service.

Christmas Shoe Boxes:  140 wrapped and filled shoe boxes were delivered by Marilyn Clark and Father Jon to Dayspring Conference Center in Ellenton last Tuesday.  Fr. Liban, Fr. Mario Castro and Fr. William Delatori, along with Archdeacon Dennis McMannis were there to receive these generous gifts.  The boxes were filled with love and care from the parishioners of Calvary and along with support from St. Dunstans.   The Latino Clergy repeatedly mentioned that without these Christmas shoe boxes, many of the children in their congregations which include some migrant children would have received nothing for Christmas.    In addition to the shoe boxes there was a huge bag of stuffed animals, two boxes of items too large for the shoe boxes, and a huge bag of candy to be distributed.  On behalf of the shoe box committee, I too, thank you - it makes our hearts happy to be able to provide for those less fortunate than us.
