Calvary Vestry Meeting Minutes

December 12, 2016

The Vestry of Calvary Episcopal Church held their Christmas social meeting at the home of Mike and Rebecca Alford.  Fr. Roberts called the special meeting to order at 8:05 PM.  The meeting was called to discuss Fr. Roberts health insurance coverage.  All members were present except Jim Yanacheck.  Keith Oeste was present representing the Finance Committee.

There was a great deal of discussion pertaining to the insurance coverage for the Roberts family.  If a spouse has insurance coverage you can opt out of the Diocesan Health Policy.  The recommendation of the Finance Committee is a recommendation.  The Vestry makes the final decision.  If Fr. Roberts is to take the Diocesan Health Policy it must be done by December 31st.  His present coverage is due in June, 2017.    Fr. Roberts stated that there are other priests in the Diocese who do not carry the Diocesan health insurance.

After much discussion Rick Schock made a motion that Fr. Roberts be permitted to continue as a participant in the family health coverage provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield to Lynne Roberts in lieu of enrolling in the DHP.  Calvary Episcopal Church shall budget for an increase in the Rector’s stipend to cover: a) the actual cost of premiums for the BCBS health plan which currently amounts to $8,600 annually or $717 monthly; b) a Health Savings Account contribution (or equivalent benefit) of $500 per month; c) a pension adjustment necessitated by the stipend increase which is estimated to be $3,000 (annualized); and d) the resulting increase in tax liability estimated to be $1,500 (also annualized).  David Kline seconded and the motion carried.

All other business will be covered at the January Vestry Meeting.  The special Vestry meeting was adjourned at 9:10 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Judith M. Marx

Clerk of the Vestry
